There are days to go until the 10th annual Ronan Clarke 10k run and 5k run/walk, an event that continues to raise much-needed funds for Mayo Roscommon Hospice and the Killala GAA Benevolent Fund, and which also remembers a great club man who sadly passed away in 2014 after a brave battle with cancer.
This year’s race will be started by special guest for the day, 2024 Mayo Person of the year Rita Casey, with the run next Sunday (July 21) getting underway at midday from Killala Community Centre. Since the inaugural event held in 2015, Killala GAA club has together with the Clarke family proudly been able to raise more than €80,000 for the chosen charities – and hopes to significantly add to that amount again this year.
Prizes are on offer for both males and females in U12, U14, U16 and adult grades for the 5k race and in both male and female categories in the 10k race.
The much sought after Ronan Clarke Memorial Cup will be awarded to the first member of Killala GAA club who crosses the finish line in the 10k race.
The presentations will be made to all prizewinners in Killala Community Centre where refreshments will also be served.
Registration will take place at the centre from 10.30am with a registration fee of €15 for the 5k race and €25 for the 10k race.
For those who cannot attend on the day but would like to donate to the nominated charities, they can do so on the GoFundMe website by searching 2024 Ronan Clarke Walk & Run. The page is also shared on all of Killala GAA’s social media pages.
