Mayo have advanced to the Division 3 National Hurling League final with a four-point win over Sligo at a wet and windy St Mary’s GAA Kent Park.
Mayo struggled in the first half and only had 0-3 to show for by the break. Sligo meanwhile had taken their chances and were seven in front.
However, an early second half sending off for Sligo’s Gavin Connolly gave Mayo an in-road back into the game. They got themselves back to within two points and then Joe Burke’s goal put them in the driving seat with nine minutes left in normal time. Sligo got back to within a point in injury time but Eoin Delaney’s late goal put the icing on the cake for Mayo.
