Seamus Clarke claimed his first All-Ireland senior medal at the Athletics Ireland 123.ie National Senior Indoor Championships held at the National Indoor Arena, Dublin.
The Moy Valley AC member finished second in the men's 5000m walk in a personal best time of 20m33s, which is a new national U20 record for the distance. The previous indoor record of 20m56s had stood since 2013.
Seamus’ time is also inside the qualification standard set for the World U20 Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA next August. He has already achieved the U20 qualification standard for the World Race Walking Team Championships in Brasilia, Brazil in April over the longer 10,000m distance.
It all amounts to a fantastic start to the 2026 season for the Ballina man who is juggling training and competing at world championship level with studying as a first year sport scholarship student at University of Limerick.
