Popular lunchtime gigs in Ballina are extended

Katie Cassidy will perform at Ballina Arts Centre's Music@Lunchtime series.

July has been a busy month for summer camps at Ballina Arts Centre. Having recently finished a series of dance camps, a Lego camp, and an animation workshop series, the centre is pleased to announce the addition of a new drama workshop at the end of this month.

The Giggles Drama Workshops will take place from July 29th to August 2nd and will include movement, vocal work, script work, character development, improvisation and working with puppets and costumes as well as lots of drama games. Classes for 9 to 12-year-olds will take place from 10am to 12 noon and for 13 to 18-year-olds from 1pm to 3pm. The camp will be a great way to meet new friends and develop creativity and confidence, as well as a chance to be active and have fun! For details, contact Mary Ellen on 087-7929138.

In the meantime, the Music@Lunchtime series has been so popular that the venue has announced a number of new dates. The first of these is Mike Absalom who will bring his harp and a selection of his poetry to the centre on Wednesday, July 31st.

Mike made his name as a singer-songwriter in the UK in the 1960s and now specialises in traditional Irish music. He is just about to release his fifth book of poetry.

The following week, on Wednesday, August 7th, Joe Clarke, who is well known to Ballina audiences from his indie music days, will round the Music@Lunchtime series off, with a selection of guitar music.

But before all that on this Wednesday, July 24th, Ballina songstress Kate Cassidy will be back to perform songs from her CD.

Katie is no stranger to Ballina Arts Centre having opened for Mundy, Jack L and Hazel O’Connor. She released her debut single ‘Leech’ last summer before taking a short break to have her daughter. With plans to release another single this winter, Katie's distinctive voice and lyrics will be a real treat for this week’s Music@Lunchtime crowd.

All of the Music@Lunchtime musicians will be together again for a final gig in the centre's auditorium on Saturday, August 24th. Book now as this promises to be a really popular evening. Tickets priced €10 are available on the Ballina Arts Centre's website or via the box office on 096-73593.
