This event, presented in association with Poetry Ireland, celebrates spoken and sung poetry, and songs about Castlebar and Westport. The poetry and songs will be spoken and sung in three languages (English, Irish, and Spanish).
John Hoban is a well-known local musician originally from Castlebar. His father was a native of Westport and his mother a native of Castlebar.
Musician and poet Isabela Basombrío Hoban is originally from Peru and now lives in Castlebar. The event will explore the concept of home, and the diversity of what that means, through the artist's individual practices. Isabela will read her poems about Castlebar and Westport. John will play the cello in between her readings. John will sing his poems and songs about Castlebar and Westport with mandocello, guitar, and fiddle.
The Poetry Day Ireland celebrations take place in Castlebar Library on Poetry Day Ireland, Thursday, May 28, with a start time of 1pm. Everyone is welcome to this free event; no booking necessary.
