Over 50 applicants for five affordable homes in Mayo

There have been over 50 applicants for five affordable houses at a new 50-unit social housing scheme in Westport.
Mayo Co Council's administrative officer Michelle Killeen told a meeting of the council's housing strategic policy committee (SPC) that there have been over 50 applications.
Fine Gael Cllr Peter Flynn complimented Ms Killeen and the team on its administration, saying: “I actually logged on to the system and pretended I was an applicant and it was really easy to complete. Well done to the team, and for telling people to get loan approval in advance.
"It will be interesting to see how it pans out, but it shows there is demand and that it outstrips supply when you have 50 applications for affordable housing in a town like Westport.”
Cllr Flynn added that the Tubber Hill development in the town was “a perfect example of affordable and social housing side by side”, that it had relatively high density and yet “very little in the sense of antisocial behaviour over the last 10 years”.
