North Mayo and West Sligo showcased as premier golfing destination

Ballina Golf Club has joined forces with Carne Golf Links and Enniscrone Golf Club to stage the West Swing Golf Classic.

Ballina Golf Club has announced the launch of the West Swing Golf Classic, a new three-day fundraising golf tournament taking place early next month, bringing together three of the West of Ireland’s most prestigious golf courses in a landmark collaborative event.

The tournament will see teams compete at Carne Golf Links on Thursday, April 9, Enniscrone Golf Club on Friday, April 10, and Ballina Golf Club on Saturday, April 11, offering golfers a rare opportunity to experience the quality and variety of golf available in North Mayo over one weekend.

The West Swing Golf Classic has been designed to highlight the exceptional standard of golf in the region while demonstrating the strength of collaboration between clubs in promoting North Mayo as a leading golfing destination along the Wild Atlantic Way.

The event is expected to attract visiting golfers during the shoulder season, generating increased footfall for local accommodation providers, restaurants and hospitality businesses throughout Ballina and North Mayo. While the event is expected to attract visiting golfers, it also offers local players a chance to fully appreciate the quality of golfing assets available right on their own doorstep.

Welcoming the announcement, Mairéad Melody Carr, Manager of Mayo North Tourism, said the event represents a significant boost for Ballina and the wider region:

“Golf tourism is one of the most important drivers of the visitor economy in North Mayo. Initiatives like the West Swing Golf Classic are vital in positioning Ballina and the surrounding area as a truly exceptional golfing destination. The collaboration between Carne, Enniscrone and Ballina golf clubs sends a powerful message about the quality of golf on offer here and the ambition of the region to work together.”

She added: “Golfers don’t just play and leave, they stay, dine locally and explore the region. Events like this bring real economic benefit to Ballina, support local businesses and help put the town firmly on the map as a destination worth visiting and revisiting.”

Entry to the West Swing Golf Classic is priced at €600 per team of four, offering outstanding value for three rounds of championship-standard golf across three highly regarded courses.

Teams will compete for a total prize fund of €5,000, with prizes awarded for overall team performance, daily winners and a range of on-course competitions including Longest Drive, Nearest the Pin and more.

While competition will be strong, organisers emphasise that the focus of the weekend is on fun, camaraderie and community support. The tournament is a key fundraising initiative for Ballina Golf Club and is proudly supported by main sponsor Prestige Tiles & Bathrooms.

A spokesperson for the organising committee said:

“This event is about showcasing the incredible golf we have on our doorstep while strengthening relationships between clubs and welcoming golfers to the region. To experience three courses of this calibre in one weekend is a unique opportunity, and we’re delighted to see such positive interest already.”
