‘Upgrade needed’ for Tom Ruane Park
Cllr Marie-Therese Duffy raised the issue.
A Ballina councillor has called on Mayo County Council to provide a detailed update on the delivery and timeline for the repairs and upgrades that are required at the Tom Ruane Park in the North Mayo town.
Cllr Marie Therese Duffy raised that matter at the May meeting of Ballina Municipal District when she stated that the upgrade is urgently needed.
“Equipment there has been barricaded off for years now, the fencing surrounding the basketball courts is damaged and bent and the playing centre of the multi-use courts is also very slippery, so there are upgrades needed.
"We have one of the most amazing parks, there is not one like it all over the country, but it is in bad need of upgrades and repairs so there is a need for securing of that funding in the near future.”
Cllr Duffy's call was supported by Cllr Annie May Reape.
Head of Ballina Municipal District Anna Connor confirmed that the authority is currently collaborating with the parks superintendent Peter Gill in relation to an allocation under the Sports Capital Fund, that project details are being finalised and in the process of submission to the Department.
Once approval is received, works will proceed and a more definitive project timeline will then be available.
