Trucks are ‘driving into towns to avoid narrow roundabouts’
Cllr Richard Finn
A Mayo councillor has claimed that roundabouts are being narrowed to the point where truck drivers are unable to get around them safely.
Cllr Richard Finn told a meeting of Mayo Co Council's Roads and Sustainable Travel Strategic Policy Committee that the "narrowing down" of roundabouts for traffic calming is "seriously wrong".
"This does not work and drivers of [lorries] cannot get around without cutting their tyres. That is happening on the flyover in Claremorris, and now the trucks are coming back into town to try and avoid them. We cannot be driving our larger vehicles through towns."
