Tributes paid to late Garda who is fondly remembered in Mayo

Warm tributes have been paid following the sudden passing of a popular Garda.
Diarmuid Ó Tuairisg died suddenly on Saturday, August 30 at University Hospital Galway surrounded by friends, family and colleagues.
Diamuid, of The Lane, Killoughter, Castlegar, Galway / Inverin, Galway and formerly, An Lochán Beag, Indreabhán, worked as a Garda based at Mill Street station in Galway city. He was previously station in Castlebar, Co Mayo.
It is understood that the married father-of-three died after a sudden and unexpected medical complication.
A tribute was paid to Mr Ó Tuairisg on behalf of all the solicitors in Mayo who recalled a “genuine” and “courteous” Garda.
“My sincere condolences on behalf of all solicitors in County Mayo on the dreadful news of Diarmuid’s passing to his wife Tara, children Isabelle, Sadie and Blake, his parents, siblings and all family members, friends and colleagues. I remember Diarmuid as a genuine, courteous, easygoing and fair minded Garda, always diligent and committed. He spent many years as a Garda in Castlebar and made a lasting and positive impression on his many colleagues. I extend our deepest sympathies at this very difficult time,” said Gary Mulchrone, President of the Mayo Solicitors' Bar Association.
“Having worked with Diarmuid at Castlebar and Galway, I firsthand saw the positive impact Diarmuid had on both the communities he served and his colleagues, his gentle smile and approachability broke down many barriers, a great Garda and proud family man, rest in peace Diarmuid,” read another message of condolence.
