Councillors in the Ballina Municipal District have expressed a vote of sympathy to the late Henry Wills, Gurteens, Crossmolina Road, Ballina.

Henry, who worked as a photographer with the Western People for almost five decades, passed away in early January following a brief illness.

Speaking at last week's municipal meeting, Cllr Mark Duffy hailed the legacy of "a proud Ballina man".

“Henry Wills was a proud Ballina man who leaves behind an incredible legacy. He was synonymous with civic life within the town and is a household name in Ballina. May he rest in peace,” said Cllr Duffy.

Cllr Michael Loftus, in paying tribute, referred to several photographs on the wall of the Ballina Council Chamber that were captured by Henry.

“We can see all around us that Henry will always not be far from us. He touched absolutely everyone with his camera. He was a credit to Ballina, to Mayo and his country," said Cllr Loftus.

All councillors wished to be associated with the vote of sympathy for Henry Wills.
