Tributes following passing of well-known Mayo businessman

Members of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District have extended sympathy to the family of Jim Hogan, who died recently. 

Mr Hogan, who ran a well-known courier service for decades, was originally a Tipperary man who made Westport his home and raised a family there.

Cathaoirleach Cllr Brendan Mulroy told the July meeting of the forum that Mr Hogan was a real GAA man who did so much for the youth and was an "absolute gentleman".

“He was a man who looked after people and a good friend to all. We will never come across his likes again.”

Cllr John O’Malley said Mr Hogan was always so obliging and had no hesitation in helping people whenever he could, adding: “He was a real gentleman, in his business and in sport.”

Cllr Peter Flynn said Mr Hogan had a huge impact in the GAA and particularly with hurling in Westport and it would not be the same without him. 

“There is no club or organisation that his business did not sponsor, his passing is a very sad event.”
