Special event in memory of Ballina great
The late Marian Browne will be remembered at this year's festival.
The inaugural Marian Browne Memorial 5K will take place during this year’s Ballina Salmon Festival, named to honour one of the town’s most dedicated volunteers.
Marian Browne (neé Hanley) was a pillar of the local community and known for her decades-long involvement in local organisations and her passing last November left a deep sense of loss in Ballina and the wider north Mayo area.
A spirited, caring and hard-working volunteer, she was secretary of Ballina Stephenites GAA Club and Bord na nÓg for several years and was also strongly associated with other local organisations, including Order of Malta Ballina, Ballina Squash Club and 5th Mayo Scout Group.
In 2023, Marian was the recipient of the Ballina Salmon Festival Spirit of the Festival Award, recognising her long and selfless service to the festival and the wider Ballina community.
Ballina Credit Union are delighted to sponsor the Marian Browne 5k as part of the Ballina Salmon Festival. This special event honours Marian’s memory, whose dedication, leadership and kindness has left a lasting impact on the festival and the wider Ballina community.
Whether walking, jogging or running, everyone is encouraged to come out, get involved and show their support with athletes of all abilities welcome. Bring your friends, family and neighbours and be part of a special evening of remembrance, community and wellbeing in the picturesque surroundings of the beautiful Belleek Woods.
The event takes place on Thursday, July 16th, and registration starts from 5.30pm at Ballina Athletic Track and the race begins at 6.30pm.
