Salmon catches rise on Moy after slow start to season

The latest angling reports from Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) on the River Moy show that catches have risen significantly in the last number of weeks.

159 salmon were caught in the week ending June 9, however, the number had risen by the end of the week of June 16. 227 salmon were reported caught on the IFI system although some fisheries were reporting low levels of angling.

32 salmon were caught on the Moy Fishery with 18 released, 21 of which were caught on the Ridge Pool, six on the Cathedral Beat and five on the Weir Pool. Weights ranged from 2.5lbs to 13lbs.

The Ballina Salmon Anglers reported 35 salmon caught, the majority of which were grilse from 2.5lbs to 7lbs.

45 salmon were reported caught by the Foxford Salmon Anglers and 29 by the Cloongee Fishery. 28 were caught by the East Mayo Anglers Association. 16 salmon were caught at the Foxford Fishery while six were caught in the Foxford town area. 11 were caught at Gannon’s Fishery.

Seven salmon were caught at Attymass Angling Club and Armstrong Fishery respectively while a further seven were caught for the week at Armstrong Fishery.

There was a lower catch rate reported at Mount Falcon Estate and by the Knockmore Salmon Anglers, where three salmon were caught respectively in each area.
