Road improvements sought at Mayo cemeteries

Independent Cllr John O'Malley

The roads to both Glenhest and Kilbride cemeteries are privately owned and cannot be resurfaced by Mayo County Council unless the owners wish to apply under the council’s Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) for funding.

Area engineer Heather Gibbons was replying to a query from Independent Cllr John O'Malley who had told the recent meeting of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District:

“The road into Kilbride is a scandal, you can hardly get in or out with a coffin, the road should be done. It’s the same thing in Glenhest and I would ask that the council at least do something with them.”
