Review to 'ensure longevity' of council's machinery yard

Cllr Damien Ryan

A Mayo councillor has raised concerns that the local authority’s machinery yard is “fading into the background".

At a meeting of the council's roads strategic policy committee (SPC), Cllr Damian Ryan highlighted what he described as a “worrying trend” arising in relation to the council’s machinery hard, which he said was “fading into the background because of deals being done with outside contractors".

However, Acting Head of Roads, Conrad Harley, told the Ballinrobe councillor: “The discussion is premature as a root and branch review on the yard is underway and once it is published, we will identify how to make it more efficient, with value for money and ensuring its longevity and we expect to have that report shortly.”
