COMMUNITY NOTES: NORTH MAYO - WESTERN PEOPLE (FEBRUARY 17 EDITION)

All associated with Moygownagh GAA are deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden passing of their valued member John Blehein, Carn, Moygownagh. John was a much-valued and respected member of the club and community.

He was held in very high regard by all who knew him as a good neighbour and loyal friend who could always be called on in a time of need. John was a very sociable person and always had time to stop and chat while he was out for his many walks around Carn Road. John served in the Irish Army for 38 years, which included two terms on peace keeping missions with the United Nations.

Following his recent retirement, John’s love of volunteering took a new level in his many ventures, including school bus runs, football games, community games, set dancing Scor and he played a big role in organising Santa’s visit to St. Daria’s playschool. John was a man of great faith and held many voluntary roles in St. Cormac’s Church, Mogownagh.

John and the Blehein family have always been there to support the club and wider community. John was pre deceased by his wife Maeve, and deepest sympathy is extended to his sons Eoin, Diarmaid and Cormac, daughter-in- law Laura, grand-daughters Maeve and Moira, his sisters Mary and Breege, extended family, friends and all who knew him.
