Relay for Life is a global event celebrating and remembering those who have and are fighting cancer.
The third Relay for Life event in Mayo will take place on May 17 and 18 at The Fairgreen, Westport.
Delicious refreshments and great live entertainment will boost participants and contribute to a festive atmosphere throughout the weekend, while a myriad of activities and games will combine to ensure a fun family day out.
This is a perfect opportunity to bring colleagues, teams, friends and communities together to support a great cause. The first two years have focussed on locations around Westport but this year organisers are encouraging families, community groups or work colleagues from all over Mayo to take part. There are so many ways to be part of this event - participate, be a volunteer on the day, join a team, be part of the committee or simply provide moral support for the teams on the day.
Teams and individuals can register online at www.relayforlife.ie. While it is a 24-hour event, you can just come along for an hour or two and be part of a very special community event. Candle bags in support of a candle ceremony will be available from participating shops in advance of the event and can also be bought online through the event website or Facebook and at the event. These candle bags can be personalised by adding a name, a poem or photo. The bags will be a part of a heart-warming candle ceremony on Saturday evening and as darkness falls lighting the route to remind us that light is so much brighter when we come together.
There will also be local fundraising prior to the event, fundraising stalls at the event as well as donation buckets. Last year’s event raised over €80,000 which helped fund critical services like night nursing, volunteer driver service and counselling sessions in Mayo.
