Progress sought on Monasteries of the Moy cycle project

Councillors are keen to seek progress on cycling infrastructure in the Ballina Municipal District

Cllr Jarlath Munnelly has called on Mayo County Council to seek funding to surface a loose surface section of the Monasteries of the Moy greenway with macadam.

The Fine Gael councillor called for the works to be carried out on the R314 road as far as the Moyne Road between Killala and Ballina.

He stressed that this was a capital project included on their list of priorities and should be advanced by including it on the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) for next year.

In response, engineer Declan Ginnelly said he would forward this request to the Tourism, Recreation and Amenity section of the Council as greenway works not funded by TII, such as this one, could be applied for through a local community group under ORIS.
