A local councillor has welcomed the publishing of a Part 8 Planning Notice for the Céide Coastal Walkway, a proposed coastal walkway from Downpatrick Head to Céide in Ballycastle.

Cllr Jarlath Munnelly said this was a very important development in the project that has come after a lot of hard work from the local community, landowners and Mayo County Council.

“This is a huge step forward in this project. The walkway along the spectacular coastline between Downpatrick Head and Céide has the potential to be an iconic project – a national level attraction – that will be a gamechanger for North Mayo tourism."

Cllr Munnelly encouraged the public to engage with the project, which is open for comment for the next four weeks from today (February 13).

I would encourage everyone to have a look at the plans and make comments on it. If anyone has questions or concerns I am available to speak to them at any time about it. I have been supporting this project since its inception, so naturally I am eager to see this project progress to construction.”
