Progress is being made to extend Bonniconlon graveyard

Mayo County Council is making progress on the extension of Bonniconlon Burial Ground.

The Ballina Municipal District and the environmental section of the council have been in discussions regarding the urgent requirement to extend the graveyard.

The graveyard is almost out of space, according to Fianna Fáil Cllr Annie May Reape, who raised the item under a notice of motion at last week's municipal district meeting.

“This is one that we can’t avoid progressing,” she said.

Senior engineer Declan Ginnelly said the council is currently arranging meetings with landowners and community members to progress the issue of the Bonniconlon graveyard.

Fine Gael Cllr John O’Hara welcomed the news that progress was being made on this development. He said a local committee in Bonniconlon, which he has been involved with, has worked hard on the proposed development for the past two years.

Cllr O'Hara welcomed the further progress that has been made on the project.
