Problems with Lime Bikes in Castlebar
The outgoing Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District has said that while Lime Bikes are “a brilliant addition to the town”, they are also “adding problems”.
The e-bikes have been available for hire in the town for the past few years but Cllr Donna Sheridan says there are issues with them.
“One came down Lucan Street, drove into the side of a vehicle and then cycled off. Also, I was walking towards my car one day and my own wing mirror was taken off by a Lime bike. I contacted the company but five months later they still never came back to me.
"These bikes are going around at high speed and there is no recourse for road users whose wing mirrors are being damaged, and no doubt one will cause a serious accident.
"The service is a great resource to the town but there are some tweaks we need to make so that everyone is safe."
Cllr Sheridan asked the head of the district David Mellett to write to the firm to highlight the issues raised.
