Ballina native David Rowe has been elected Chair of the West and North West Regional Committee for the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland.
Dating back to 1895, the Society of Chartered Surveyor Ireland (SCSI) is the independent professional body for chartered surveyors working and practicing in Ireland in partnership with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The SCSI is the leading body of qualified professionals typically employed in the construction, land and property sector in Ireland.
The role of chair brings with it the responsibility of engaging many of the chartered surveyors who operate in the West and North West region and promoting the profession itself, from talking with young students seeking to be embark in a career within the sector to assisting property graduates through the professional competencies on the pathway to becoming chartered. The objectives of the committee are to promote, encourage and build on the network of surveyors that provide a much-needed professional service in the western region.
David made the move to the west of Ireland over five years ago having carved out a career in the area of property surveying for over 20 years, working in a number multidisciplined roles within national as well as international real estate firms, providing a range of property services in the commercial sector from general agency, disposal/acquisitions, professional services and valuations through to asset management.
“Surveying is such an interesting but challenging profession, the day-to-day dynamics mean that no one day is the same," he explained. "The career path I chose did take many different turns, but is one I would encourage any young and hard-working student to explore as it takes account of many different attributes, not all of which are academic driven."
David firstly completed an honours Degree in Commerce before making the decision to move into the profession of surveying, obtaining an MSc, Masters in Real Estates while working in the sector, before concluding his professional crepitation by completing his APC and obtaining full professional membership to the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland as a Chartered Surveyor and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in 2016.
In taking up the role of chair of the region, David remarked: “It is an honour to be elected to this position, and I look forward to meeting with other surveyors in different sectors of the organisation throughout the west, while continuing to build on the foundations already set by peers and fellow members of the surveying world in the West of Ireland.”
He will also represent the western region on the SCSI council working in conjunction with the RICS.
