Members of Mayo Co Council's Community, Integration and Recreation Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) paid tribute to outgoing Director of Services Joanne Grehan at their February meeting. Ms Grehan takes up a new role in Planning, Economic Development, Environment and Climate Change as part of a senior management reshuffle at the local authority.
SPC chairperson John O’Malley wished Ms Grehan well in her new role, saying the members were sorry to see her go.
The council's Head of Community Engagement Deirdre Finnerty said on behalf of the team she wished to thank Joanne for her commitment, support and encouragement in relation to all the work in community engagement.
“We achieved an awful lot during your time, and this is down to your commitment, support and innovative approach. We wish you well in your new job and thank you very much for all your support.”
Head of Integration Anna Connors told Ms Grehan: “I will definitely miss you personally and have enjoyed our time working together. You brought about great leadership, encouragement and always supported the team. Integration is a new area, and you brought great structure to that and helped me set up the unit last year and we will miss you. The Environment section’s gain is our loss.”
Cllr Gerry Coyle praised Ms Grehan for her willingness to always engage in consultation.
Cllr Michael Loftus said he looked forward to working with Ms Grehan in her new role “because we know we have a good person to work with".
He added: “It is nice to hear the people you work with praising you because they are the ones who are with you on a daily basis, so it is clearly well deserved.”
