Planning appeal lodged over North Mayo tourism project

The beach at Carrowmore-Lacken is regarded as one of the best in North Mayo.

A decision by Mayo Co Council to grant planning permission for a development that includes five self-contained glamping pods in a North Mayo village has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.

Last month, the local authority granted permission for the development at Sunrise B&B in the Carrowmore-Lacken area. The proposed works include closing up the existing entrance on the southwest corner of the site and replacing it with an entrance to the front boundary. Also included are five self-contained glamping pods with on-site services and the installation of 300 sqm of free-standing solar panels and a plant room. Other works include an on-site wastewater treatment unit, a reception area within the existing building and all other associated site works.

A number of submissions were made regarding this proposed development. However, the council followed the recommendation of its senior executive planner’s report and granted permission.

An Bord Pleanála will make its decision on the appeal before March 22, 2024.
