New reservoir for North Mayo village

Cllr John O'Hara welcomed the news.
A local councillor has received confirmation that a new reservoir with increased capacity will be built in the Bonniconlon area.
Cllr John O’Hara said the new facility will provide a day’s worth of capacity compared to the two-hour capacity of the existing system. He said Bonniconlon village and the surrounding areas have needed an upgrade to its existing reservoir for some time.
“The old reservoir has a two-hour capacity. If there was a breakdown or if the electricity was out or we had another situation like the storm (Éowyn) earlier this year, that reservoir would be good for two hours and then it would take the pumps two days to get back to themselves,” he said.
“The good news is that we will now have capacity for a full day, with a new reservoir and two new pumps,” he added.
Cllr O’Hara said the reservoir would serve the village and surrounding areas including Carra, Kilgarvan, Newtown and Whitestream.
“I have been looking for this for the last three years and to get it at last is very welcome."
