Multiple accidents at North Mayo junction, meeting told

Councillor Jarlath Munnelly has called for safety measures at a dangerous junction in the Carrowmore-Lacken area.
A road safety assessment is to be carried out on a junction in the Carrowmore-Lacken area of North Mayo following several accidents in recent years.
Killala-based Cllr Jarlath Munnelly raised a notice of motion at last week's municipal district meeting calling for an investigation into the junction at Mullaghnacross, Carrowmore-Lacken, which is located on the L1116 local primary road. He said he wants funding to implement safety measures.
"This junction has been the location of several accidents in recent years and I am calling for it to be investigated," said the Fine Gael councillor.
Council engineer Vincent O'Boyle said a road safety assessment will be carried out at the location, including a review of existing road markings and signage.
"Following the road safety assessment, a funding application will be submitted for a low-cost safety scheme at the said location, if appropriate," explained Mr O'Boyle.
