Mini-roundabout proposal for busy Mayo junction

A Westport councillor has asked Mayo County Council to consider installing a mini-roundabout at the Leenane Road/Quay Road junction where regular traffic build-ups occur. 

Cllr Brendan Mulroy told the recent meeting of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District that “there was absolute mayhem there [recently] with a funeral taking place in the area". Cllr Mulroy said he had looked at the mini-roundabout in operation at Centra on the approach to Altamont Street and told management: “I think a similar one would work at this junction also. People were caught for a long time waiting to get out onto the Quay Road with the build-up to that funeral and the issue needs to be resolved.”
