Mayo town centre site is purchased by local hotel

The Wyatt Hotel in the centre of Westport.
Members of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District have approved the disposal of a plot of land at Church Street, Westport, to The Wyatt Hotel Unlimited, which has indicated that the property will be used for an expansion of its existing business. The property, owned by Mayo County Council, is a grassed amenity space, measuring 0.669 acres.
In a written report, Julianne Gavin, who is the council's Head of Property, Internal Audit and Organisational Change, told councillors that the plot was valued last October by auctioneers O’ Toole & Co at €670,000.
"The property was not advertised for sale as an approach was made by The Wyatt Hotel. A price of €670,000 is being sought, as recommended in the valuation report, and a further €280,000 has been offered to co-develop the adjoining public amenity area, thus contributing directly to the upgrade of accessible public amenities."
The proposal was approved unanimously.
