Mayo TD leads congratulations for Caelan Doris on being named Ireland captain

Local Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary has said there is great pride in Caelan Doris being named Ireland captain.

Mayo man Caelan Doris, who will captain Ireland for the first time time in their Guinness Six Nations clash against Italy, has been congratulated by Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary.

It will be a proud day for all at Ballina RFC on Sunday as the 25 year-old leads the rugby team out at the Aviva Stadium.

Local Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary expressed his delight on social media and congratulated Caelan and all of the coaches who guided him.

“Great news for Caelan Doris and Ballina RFC -the Lacken man will captain Ireland against Italy on Sunday,” he posted.

“I am delighted for Caelan, his family and former teammates and coaches at Ballina Rugby Club -enjoy the occasion Caelan -we are proud of you,” he added.

The Lacken man will become the 110th player to captain the Ireland men’s team in Test rugby.

Head Coach Andy Farrell has selected an unchanged back three for the Round 2 clash as Hugo Keenan starts at full-back, while Calvin Nash and James Lowe continue on the wings. Robbie Henshaw is retained at outside centre, with Stuart McCloskey coming into the Ireland midfield at inside centre, replacing Bundee Aki.
