Mayo national school 'should be relocated'
Independent Cllr John O'Malley.
Scoil Phádraig National School on the Newport Road in Westport should be removed and built on a new green field site, according to a local councillor.
During a discussion at the recent meeting of Wesptort-Belmullet Municipal District on Active Travel and Safe Routes to School projects, Independent Cllr John O’Malley told Mayo Co Council management: “I would like to see what you are doing with Scoil Phadraig before you start any work here as my option would be to remove the school altogether because it should never have been built there but on a green field site instead.
"There is no place to park, no parents can pull in, children can’t pull out there safely, and a school should never have been built there. I would be baffled to know what can be done.”
