Mayo motorist caught driving nearly 40km/hr above speed limit

An Garda Síochána, in partnership with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and other stakeholders, conducted a national speed enforcement operation – National #Slowdown Day – which ran for 24 hours from 00:00 to 23:59 on Monday, 1st September 2025.

Throughout this National #Slowdown Day, members of An Garda Síochána, along with GoSafe Mobile and Static Safety Cameras, detected a total of 920 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.

An example of high speeds detected included a motorist driving at 118km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R313 at Béal an Mhuirthead, Co. Mayo.
