The late Eddie Walsh was a leading light in his community

This month the Killala community will come together to remember a community great.

Eddie Walsh was one of Killala GAA’s outstanding clubmen.

“A larger-than-life character whose humour, kindness, and dedication touched everyone who knew him,” said the club.

Eddie, who passed away last year, was a well-respected member of the Killala community known for his contributions to many facets of local life, particularly Killala GAA club.

He played for the club through all age levels and went on to be involved in various club management and administration roles and was a selector on the Killala team that won the 2006 Connacht Junior Club Championship. Eddie also served as Chairman and County Board Delegate among other roles.

He worked in the Water Services section of Mayo County Council for many years and later for Uisce Eireann/Irish Water.

The Eddie Walsh Memorial Walk takes place Sunday, August 16 at 12.30pm, starting from Killala Community Centre.

All proceeds will support two wonderful causes in Sunflower Children’s Hospice and Mayo Mental Health Association.

“Let’s remember Eddie, share stories, and support two deserving charities,” said Killala GAA.
