Mayo man celebrates retirement after 45 years of dedicated service

Ger Dawson has retired after more than 45 years of dedicated service to the postal network.

Ger Dawson has retired after more than 45 years of dedicated service to the postal network.

During his time at the Westport Post Office, Ger worked both as a clerk and in the sorting office at The Mall in Westport.

A century-long legacy came to an end when An Post separated its retail and delivery services. The delivery operation moved from The Mall to a new, state-of-the-art Delivery Service Unit (DSU) at the Westport Industrial Estate. Ger oversaw the smooth transition of this major operation, which saw all local delivery offices — including Achill, Ballycroy, Louisburgh, Aughagower and Killawalla — relocate their sorting facilities to the new Westport DSU.

Ger’s personal approach and the respect he showed his colleagues helped create a positive and supportive workplace. He is wished a long and happy retirement by all his past and present colleagues.
