Mayo in mourning after talented footballer loses life in road crash

The road accident occurred yesterday morning.

East Mayo has been plunged into sadness following the devastating loss of a young man in a road accident.

James McNeive, aged 28, from Knock, died after the van he was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry yesterday morning.

The accident happened shortly after 6am on the N15 at Urlar, near Drumcliffe, Co Sligo. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Mr McNeive worked as a teacher and the talented footballer played senior football with Aghamore GAA.

The lorry driver was taken to Sligo University Hospital for assessment, but his injuries have been described as non-life-threatening.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are also seeking road users with camera footage, including dashcam footage, who were travelling between Drumcliffe and Grange at the time of the collision to make it available to them.
