Mayo driver arrested for dangerous driving in weather warning
Yesterday (Friday) evening on a busy N5 in Charlestown, the Mayo Roads Policing Unit detected a vehicle travelling at 171km/h in a 100km/h zone during a yellow weather warning for low Temperature/Ice.
When the vehicle was stopped, the Mayo Roads Policing noticed an extremely worn front tyre along with an expired NCT. The vehicle was subsequently seized.
The novice driver was arrested and charged with dangerous driving.
They now face a two-year driving disqualification, a fine of up to €5,000, or up to six months in prison With cold weather conditions promised in the coming days. drivers should always ensure that their vehicle is in a roadworthy condition before setting off on their journey.
Motorists are asked to take extra care on the roads and give more time for the journey ahead.
