Man dead, another hospitalised after fire in Ballina, Gardaí confirm

Gardaí have confirmed that a man has died after a fire in Ballina this morning.

A spokesperson from the Garda Press Office told the Western People that at 8.15am this morning (Thursday), Gardaí received a report of a fire at a residence in Ballina.

Fire services attended the scene on Tolan Street, Ballina and made the area safe. It is understood the fire occurred above the Boyle Sports betting shop premises.

“A male was located deceased in the residence. His body remains at the scene. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination,” said the spokesperson.

“A second male has been conveyed to University Hospital Mayo for treatment for his injuries. Enquiries are ongoing.”
