Major update on train services for Mayo v Cork game this weekend

Heuston station.

Irish Rail has confirmed to Senator Mark Duffy that they have reversed their decision and will now provide a special train service from Mayo for the All-Ireland quarter final against Cork on Saturday.

An extra service will depart Westport at 9.15am, travelling to Heuston station, with the return service leaving Heuston at 21.10pm.

Due to scheduling, Ballina and Foxford passengers will have to travel via Castlebar or Claremorris with a direct train back on the return leg.

Senator Duffy confirmed the news this afternoon following ongoing campaigning on the issue.

Duffy had said it was unfair that Louth, Kerry and Cork would all have special trains for supporters, but Mayo fans were left out.

He thanked the staff of Irish Rail locally, who have made it possible for fans to travel by working this Saturday at short notice to provide the much-needed service.

Senator Duffy said it was regrettable that it was not possible for the extra train to connect to Foxford and Ballina due to capacity issues on the Ballina line.
