Major Mayo town project continuing on schedule
Minister of State Alan Dillon TD has welcomed confirmation from Uisce Éireann that the major upgrade of the Claremorris Wastewater Treatment Plant continues to advance on schedule, marking a critical investment in the long term development of Claremorris and the wider Mayo region.
Stage 4 (Implementation) commenced late last year, with construction progressing in line with the approved programme. Current works include site establishment, early civil works, and preparation for the installation of key process equipment.
Minister Dillon emphasised the importance of the project for Mayo, noting that modern wastewater infrastructure is essential for enabling new housing, supporting business expansion, protecting local waterways, and ensuring sustainable regional development.
“This upgrade will provide the capacity and resilience Claremorris needs for decades to come,” he said.
The project remains firmly on schedule, with construction and implementation works set to take 24 months. Commissioning and performance testing are planned to run from Q3 2026 to Q1 2028, ensuring a phased and controlled transition into full operational capacity. Overall contract completion is expected in early 2028.
Uisce Éireann confirmed to Minister Dillon that works are progressing to plan. “While typical risks remain, including weather, supply chain pressures, and specialist equipment delivery, no material delays are currently anticipated.”
“I welcome the strong progress to date and the clear commitment to delivering this project on time,” Minister Dillon added.
“I will continue to work closely with Uisce Éireann to ensure this vital upgrade is completed as scheduled, supporting the growth and environmental wellbeing of Claremorris and the wider region.
