Late evening Dublin-Mayo train service starts soon

A new late service from Dublin-Westport is starting next month
A late train service from Dublin to Mayo is to come on stream next month.
The 7.35pm service from Dublin to Westport, changing at Manulla Junction for Foxford and Ballina, will commence on December 10.
This service will make stops at various stations, including Ballyhaunis at 10.01pm, Claremorris at 10.16pm, Castlebar at 10.36pm, Westport at 10.53pm, Foxford at 10.47pm, and Ballina at 11.00pm.
Fine Gael Deputy Alan Dillon, who is a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, said there has been a massive growth in rail travel on this line in the past year.
“Last year, the Westport to Dublin route witnessed a total of 545,000 journeys, and this year has seen further substantial growth, with punctuality performance on this route at an impressive 93.8%,” he said.
“I am delighted the service will be operational prior to Christmas and will be of great benefit to those hoping to make the most of day trips to the capital city.”
Deputy Dillon said he is hoping to see a return of the trolley service that has been absent on Westport-Dublin trains since the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I have reached out to Jim Meade, CEO of Irish Rail, and anticipate a meeting with him in the coming weeks to discuss the progress of the pilot trolley service, currently in operation on the Dublin to Cork line,” he added.
