Knockmore native announces he is running for the local elections

Independent candidate for the Ballina Local Electoral Area (LEA) Joe Faughnan
Knockmore native Joe Faughnan has announced that he will stand for election in the Ballina Local Electoral Area as an Independent candidate.
Mr Faughnan said he is running in order to attempt to tackle the ‘real issues’ facing local communities such as emigration and housing.
“So many talented, well-educated young men and women feel they have no choice but to leave the local area for one reason or another and the impact this is having on families and communities is devastating,” he said.
“I am committed to doing all I can to reverse this trend and to give the young people of this area the opportunities that they should expect to have here at home.”
He said that it is vital the housing stock is increased and said this is a priority. He added that it is important to support local sports clubs and organisations.
“The benefits that flow from being involved in sport, in terms of health and wellness, social cohesion and community pride are endless, and I am committed to delivering essential infrastructure across the North Mayo area.”
Mr Faughnan added that he wishes to build upon the ‘proud legacy’ of outgoing Councillor Seamus Weir, who is retiring from Mayo County Council at the end of this term.
“Over many years now, my fellow Knockmore man, Seamus Weir, has shown just what can be achieved by an independent councillor and that is a proud legacy that I intend to build on if given the opportunity,” said Mr Faughnan.
