Imminent start for safety works on Ballina street

Construction works are scheduled to start next week on a pedestrian crossing at Lord Edward Street in Ballina.

Senior Executive Engineer Orla Bourke told yesterday's meeting of the Ballina Municipal District that she had received confirmation from the contractors prior to the start of the meeting that works would commence next week.

The proposed pedestrian crossing had been raised as a notice of motion by Cllr John O’Hara and has been a long-running item on the Ballina MD agenda.

“A family suffered an unfortunate bereavement at this location and they will be happy to see it starting and I welcome these works getting underway,” said Cllr O’Hara.
