The funeral details have been announced for the woman who tragically died in a drowning accident in Louisburgh last Sunday.

The funeral details have been announced for the woman who tragically died in a drowning accident in Louisburgh last Sunday, July 21.

The woman was named locally as Cathy Hughes. 

Ms Hughes, who was aged in her 60s, was a member of one of Westport’s most successful and best-known families.

She drowned at Old Head Beach despite efforts to save her. 

The sad passing of Ms Hughes has stunned her homeplace and her adopted city of Galway where she was a leading light in art circles.

She will repose at her home (H91VO9W) on Wednesday, 24 July from 5 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. Removal on Thursday, 25 July to arrive at the Church of Christ the King, Salthill in advance of Requiem Mass therein at 2.00 p.m. 

Cathy will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
