Funding approved for Animal Welfare groups in Mayo

The Environment and Climate Change SPC of Mayo County Council have approved €50,000 in grants for five different Animal Welfare Organisations.

The largest allocation of €24,500 went towards the North West SPCA, who cover the north and west of county Mayo. The organisation currently have no premises of their own, using kennels and fosters to look after the animals in their care. Working in conjunction with the Council's Dog Warden, they rehome dogs from the Mayo Dog Pound.

€18,500 was allocated to the Mayo SPCA who are based in east Mayo and rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abandoned or neglected animals out of their own premises near Ballyhaunis.

€4,000 was allocated to Madra, who assist in the rehoming of dogs from the Mayo Dog Pound. This year, Madra updated their intake kennels and have plans to update and renovate their kitchen facilities.

€2,000 was allocated to Hungry Horse Outside who are the organisation who impound stray horses for Mayo County Council., €1,000 was allocated to Ainmhithe who are based in the north and west of the county. They rescue, rehabilitate and rehome a large number of collies from the Mayo Dog Pound. 

Applications were invited by public advertisement and grant recommendations were made based on a series of criteria including the governance arrangements and compliance with relevant legislation.
