Frustration over council neglect of Mayo village

There is frustration over a lack of council support for Tidy Towns efforts in Lahardane

The Lahardane community feel neglected by Mayo County Council, a meeting of Castlebar Municipal District heard.

Cllr Harry Barrett said he recently had a meeting the Lahardane's Tidy Towns Committee. He said the committee feel frustrated over the lack of hours given by the council to the village.

"For things like weeding, sweeping, cleaning of gulleys, issues like that," said Cllr Barrett.

"They would like to see more input from ourselves," he added.

Cllr Barrett said other areas may share similar feelings.

"I'm sure Parke, Ballyvary, Balla, have issues too. I would like to see a schedule for when we have new outdoor staff trained up. We can see how many hours the different villages get in terms of outdoor staff to get these jobs done."

He said community groups in certain areas "feel taken advantage of".
