A former Connacht Rugby player turned actor has been cast in the lead role in a prequel to the hit series Game of Thrones.
Peter Claffey, who was on the books at Connacht from 2015 to 2018, has been cast as Ser Duncan the Tall in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight alongside Dexter Sol Ansell, who will play Aegon ‘Egg’ Targaryen. The HBO series is based around George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novels and is set around 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Claffey, a native of Portumna, Co Galway, swapped rugby for acting and made his on-stage debut in 2022. His former province shared the news and wished him well with his new role on social media.
“Incredible news for our former player Peter Claffey, who’s been cast in a leading role in the Game of Thrones prequel.”
“Congrats Peter from all of us in the club. Don’t forget your rugby roots when you’re famous.”
