Minister of State Dara Calleary has welcomed the installation of a new extended pontoon at Ballina Quay.

“I was very pleased to be able to secure funding of €85,000 from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine to assist Mayo Co Council with the project. Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Charlie McConalogue was a visitor to the Quay earlier this year when I outlined to him the urgent need for the extended facility. I am delighted that it is now in place and operational. It will allow for the expansion of use of the Quay area for all water-based activities and I know it will be broadly welcomed by all who use the facility.

“This development follows the felling of the wall last year and will complement the proposed regeneration of the Quay area. I am working closely with Mayo County Council in relation to what will be a multi-million euro application to the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage – I expect the call for applications will be made in early 2024,” he said.

“I want to thank Minister McConalogue, Michael O’Boyle of Mayo Co Council and all who assisted in getting the new pontoon and wish the public many years of safe and happy use."
