Drunk man arrested in betting shop in Ballina

The defendant pleaded guilty at Ballina District Court.

A man was arrested after he was found drunk and slumped in a chair in a Ballina betting shop.

Marian Peci, aged 30, of Castleview, Castle Street, Ballypheasan, Roscommon Town, appeared before a sitting of Ballina District Court.

On April 4, 2025, Peci was discovered intoxicated and slumped in a chair in BoyleSports on Tone Street, Ballina. He had to be arrested for his own safety.

Peci has a number of previous convictions and is currently in custody.

“Obviously he has a problem with drink,” stated solicitor Peter Flynn. “All of his offending seems to be linked to alcohol and road traffic."

The court heard Peci, who worked as a chef, has had 10 years of offending.

Judge Sandra Murphy noted there were also drug issues in the background, telling him:

“It’s not going to be appropriate for you to spend the next 10 years of your life doing this. It’s time to get yourself sober and on the right path."

She imposed a fine of €350.
