Councillors 'must be consulted' on zoning plans for new housing

Cllr Cyril Burke: councillors must be consulted.

A Castlebar councillor has asked for local public representatives to be consulted on any new zoning plans for housing in Mayo.

Fine Gael Cllr Cyril Burke told last week's meeting of Castlebar Municipal District that he believed the Minister for Housing intends to write to all county councils to revise targets for the provision of housing in each municipal districts.

"As it stands, we had no input into the draft plan and a lot of land was already de-zoned before we had a chance to say anything, so we would like to have input into any new draft plan and know what the process is here."

Cllr Burke said there were also queries around modular homes that needed to be answered.

Cllr Michael Kilcoyne remarked: “They de-zoned land already... if they had only listened to us.”
