A councillor has requested a workshop be held between Mayo County Council and stakeholders involved in the proposed Marina Development at Westport Quay.

At the July meeting of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District, Cllr Brendan Mulroy asked whether there had been any developments in the project and when planning would begin.

“It is important to have talks with all stakeholders and maybe our engineers, and discuss how to draw down funding for this project. There is a will to get it done but it won’t happen without funding. I propose we take control of this within the chamber and make it happen.”

Cllr Peter Flynn seconded the proposal while council engineer, Heather Gibbons, agreed that a workshop should be arranged.

Cllr John O’Malley said he he hoped development at the quay could happen, adding: “I just hope we can push that on and don’t have to be waiting for foreshore licences for years and years; that we can get it done in a shorter period than 3-4 years; because it is on the boil for a long time now and this is the time to get it done. It should have been done for the quay years ago.”
